Part I - Get the Book
As mentioned in class, follow these steps to gain access to our e-book:
- Go to http://zybooks.com
- Create an account (use your mines.edu email address)
- Enter zyBook code:
MINESCSCI261Spring2020 - Enter your section/time
- Pay with credit card
Once you have access, get started on Chapter 1 for the next class. The sections to be completed before class will always be listed on the schedule page.
Part II - Tell Us About Yourself
You should already have an account for the course on Piazza. If you do not, contact your instructor right away to get added. Once you do have access, please tell us a little about yourself by adding an introductory post. At a minimum, include the information below as well as anything else you feel is interesting for us all to know. You may find out someone has the same interests as you!
- Name
- Year
- Why you signed up for the course
- An interesting fact or two about yourself
To receive full credit, you must create your post with the following specifications:
- Post to only YOUR SECTION. When creating a new post, you can choose to post to your Class Group instead of the Entire Class.
- Create this as a NOTE not a question.
- The title of the post must have your NAME.
Part III - Submit Two Selfies
In order to help us learn all of your names as quickly as possible, submit two PowerPoint slides to Canvas each with an image of yourself. The first should just be an image of your face. The second, please create a sign that has your name displayed and hold it up in view with your face. Be creative! Extra kudos for photos from the rock wall or pool.
Part IV - Take the Prereq Survey
While this course does not have any official prerequisites, we will be using several math and science skills throughout the semester. In Canvas, go to Assignments and choose Prereq Survey. This quiz is graded only for completion and serves as a self-test of concepts we will be using during the semester. If there is an area you are unsure of, then make a note to yourself to review that material.

Your submission will be graded according to the following rubric.
