Description
This application, developed for Android devices, was created to benefit
the lives of busy pet owners. Users are able to create a household, shared
with each of their family members, and manage the tasks associated with their
animals. Once a user completes a task, for example feeding the dog in the
morning, they check the box for its completion, and this gets updated on all
members' devices. This helps alleviate the issue of family members not
communicating with each other when tasks get done, resulting in them getting
performed multiple times. The cat can no longer meow its way to a three-course
dinner!
Main Audience
The main purpose of creating this application was to eliminate the additional
stress pet owners experience on a daily basis. Not only does this application allow users to
avoid performing tasks multiple times, it centralizes the information about each
of their pets. Previously, pet owners would simply keep a stack of sticky
notes for each pet's regular appointments and check-ups. Now, with this
user-friendly application, owners have access to all of this information on the
fly and in their pocket whenever it's needed most. In addition, this application
acts as a fun platform to teach children the responsibility of taking care of their
pets, and helps them become more organized.
Background
During the Mobile Application Development class at Colorado School of Mines, our
group was tasked with creating an Android application that solves a daily problem
we regularly encountered. Two of our three members have pets they need to take care
of in the midst of rigorous schoolwork. Therefore, we felt there needed to be a better
way to manage the responsibilities of owning an animal. CheckPet was then born as
the first all-inclusive pet planner application. The motivation for such a product
(and also the testing team) is pictured above.
