CSCI 499 - Final Project Descriptions

Our focus is on design and learning tools/techniques. Unlike other CS courses, our end result will not be a functional program.

Option 1 - Career Starter Coach

Inspired in part by the description of Fit Counter in User's Journey. The big goal is to help students get and love their first job (based on surveys, students seem to want this type of support). Possible features/problems to address:

• Resume
• Interview skills (maybe practice sessions?)
• Easy access to market data (salaries, types of positions, etc.)
• Track progress of job search
• Learn/Practice negotiation skills
• Figure out what type of position I want
• Think about where I want to live
• Address concerns related to work-life balance
• Other…

Option 2 - Healthy Eating Coach

Inspired in part by recent food sensitivities I've been struggling with, as well as convos with young professionals who are food and budget oriented. Possible features/problems to address:

• How do I avoid wasting food?
• How can I alter recipes to avoid food sensitivities?
• Recipes on a budget
• Where to shop locally
• Easily track what I eat: calories, sugar, macronutrient balance
• Eating for sports performance
• Eating to lose weight
• Other…

All of the above are assumptions of what might be useful… the product you design may be very different!

I also thought about a Trip Planner/Memories program, a Wardrobe Sharing program, and a Timeline of World History program (a timeline-based wikipedia). If you have an idea you prefer, GO FOR IT! Just let me know your topic and a few ideas of features (to ensure sufficient scope for our process).
