Reading Assignment

Questions to answer:

1. What challenges do designers face when designing for touchscreens vs. laptop/desktop?
2. What aspects might make touchscreen programs easier to learn?

Exercise:

Step 1.. Review the links above and create your own list of UI guidelines for mobile apps, including effective use of haptic.

Step 2.. Use your guidelines to critique a mobile app. To be a valid critique, the app you select must have at least 3 main screens and maybe some settings. For example, MapMyFitness has a dashboard, settings, workout log, and more.

Submission

Submit your list of guidelines and app critique in a single pdf file.

Evaluation

As with other assignments, your work will be evaluated based on how well you integrate the material from all the links into a thoughtful set of guidelines, and whether you apply those guidelines in a principled manner to the app of your choice. You should plan to spend several hours on this assignment. Work that appears to have been done in a hurry or given minimal thought will not receive full credit. Separate grades will be given for the questions and the guidelines/critique.
